Here's the story:  I bought a work truck, an'86 Scottsdale with the typical 305/4 barrel setup but it's got some aftermarket Holley that needs rebuilding, and I'm honestly not too crazy about it.  Now, I've got a '74 350/2 barrel intake with a good 'ol Rochester 2GV, which also needs rebuilding.  Ok, I know I can swap the intakes and (after rebuilding the carb) keep on truckin'.  But I think I've run up on a sweet deal on a brand new Rochester 2SE ($60), which was, I'm told, bought for a '79 C-10 with a 250 (4.1L).  So the sixty-four thousand dollar question for y'all is this:  Will the 2SE bolt up in the place of the 2GV without fabricating, re-jetting, and all that jazz?  I'm not willing to go through all that, I'm only an electrician, not a magician!  And yeah, I understand and totally agree that the Q-jet is the way to go, but for now, because cash it very tight, should I go for the new 2SE (provided there ain't any magic tricks to perform)  or rebuild a fairly well kept 36 year old 2GV?  I'm just looking for reliability, using what I've got for now, in the hopes of (eventually) trading off the Holley for a decent Quadrajet. So, What say you?

1) i'm not sure if the 2SE is compatable w/ the 2barrel intake;  Will check soon.

2) i'm running a 2G now.  If you're looking for reliability, you've found it.   The only issue might be the throttle cable bracket.  What car did the 350 come out of?

Ok, based on intial findings, i don't think the 2SE is going to work based on:

1) The throttle lever is positioned different than the carb you got now and the 2GV.  In other words the barrels on the 2SE are positioned front to back while the holley and 2GV have the barrels side to side in relation to the throttle.  If you were to manage to mount the 2SE on the existing 2barrel manifold the throttle lever would be in front of the carb.

2) The barrels on the 2SE are of a different size from each other! i think only one barrel is in use most of the time and then the larger, secondary barrel opens up only when the engine needs it.

This is not to say it can't be made to work, but there will proabably be some fabbing work nessesary.  Well, not probably---definitely.

3) on top of that, i'm not sure if the bases and barrels will match the spare 2GV manifold.  i would suggest bringing the 2GV and/or better yet the manifold to the place that has the 2SE and try to match them (the bases/mounting points) and see if it's compatible.  If not, you could make an adapter, but that's more fab work.

If cash is tight, and i can totally understand that, then rebuidling the 2G is cheap or if you want to take your chances, i think 2g's are literally falling out of trees on craigslist.  

Maybe try running the 2GV first w/out rebuilding?  If you have the accel cable bracket or accel linkage from the 74 engine even better.

P.S.  If i understand correctly how the 2 barrel manifold works on a v-8----one barrel feeds 4 cyls and the other barrel feeds the other 4;  The two paths are isolated from each other.   Then the 2SE definitely won't work without major modification to the intake manifold.

the 4.1 has 1 barrel act as a primary and the other acts as a secondary. think of it as one side of a 4bbl.
