Opinions on tailpipes

Okay so I am swapping a 350 for the tired 292 in my '86 C10. The V8 will have long tube headers. I am planing on fabbing up a dual exhaust system myself. Im good at welding so i dont need a direct bolt on kit. I plan on using Thrush Welded mufflers. Ive seen a few "universal" kits in summit and jegs for dual exhaust but theyre all 2 1/4" and i want something a little bigger (2 1/2 or 3?) so when i was on flowmaster's site i saw that they sold a set of tailpipes for about $140. http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=0&products_id=3821&ab=15803&recordID=&vehicle=1986%20CHEVROLET%20C10%20%20V8&orig=15803 Are they worth it? also there is these... http://blujay.com/?page=ad&adid=1379287&cat=2020311 but im a little unsure of the site seeing as ive never used it or heard of it before. Also i would like the exhaust to exit behind the rear wheels. its dumped under the bed now with the V6 and i dont like it at all. and what are your thoughts on an X or H pipe ive heard reasons both ways...

Why dont you like it under the bed?(curious) Also if you think you're going to have problems with bending the pipe or you lack a bender than those aren't bad deals. I know my exhaust guy will put duals with a h pipe with the pipes turned down for 150 so I couldnt see myself paying 20 dollars short of that when I can have a shop do it.

If your 350 is going to be pretty much stock, no big cam, then 3" pipes are too big if your going to run dual exhaust. It will be ok for single. X and H pipes are good, not sure on the differences on performance. Use what works better for you.

If your good at welding why not just get some 2 1/2 pipe ?
I used these guys when I built mine and I aint "good" at welding.

just used my 20 ton press to crush it a little where it goes over the cross member (tranny support)

You want the Pypes kit that is sold on here, it's mandrel bent and has a X-pipe, use the Violator mufflers, you WILL love it!!! Not that expensive too.

Man i would love to get that pypes kit, stainless and dual pipe with x pipe and supporting the site is good too. But unfortunately im 18 and in college and its out of my budget. thats why im fabbing up something myself.

and to answer the other questions i dont like it under the bed because i feel that i get too much vibration and it just dosent sound right, maybe its just me, idk. i would like it out the back, i had it out in front of my driver side tire for a little but it looked a little weird with the gas tank and it hanging a little below it. so i guess thats why im thinking out the back. i dont want to do straight out the back under the bumper because i think thats overdone and anybody and everybody with a pickup truck does that. and like i said before i would love to get the pypes kit from this site but its out of my budget unfortunately. I dont really have access to any kind of tubing bender though so thats why i was looking for some kind of muffler back tailpipes and cut and fit from there. The engine in the truck will be nothing crazy. Its a 350, stock bore with a comp cams kit from summit with new springs and such http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-K12-206-2/ also an intake, Edelbrock preformer 600 carb, MSD HEI distributor, and long tube headers. so nothing fancy just a mild 350.

On a budget, heading to a muffler shop will be your best bet. Get a couple quotes and find out the parts and labor prices. Its easy to get them to match or beat prices. Estimate how much pipe will be used, search the net and compare parts prices.

i like the two pipes coming straight out the back personally, mines got straight pipes with cherry bombs and i like it. you really only get loud exhast in traffic or in tunnels. i bought it that way but im sure it cost peanuts to make... maybe an idea.

If you go to AutoZone you can order Walker exhaust tailpipes or complete exhaust, the tailpipes are like $18 each and if you order the tailpipes for the 6.2 Diesel you will get 2 1\4in. instead of the gassers 2in. tubing. Maybe this will be a better option for you. Maybe some Cherry Bomb Extreem mufflers, they sound good and are cheap.

Mine is a true dual 2 1/4" exhaust with H pipe and Dynomax Ultraflo's and medium-length headers. I have 3"x18" slash-cut Magnaflow tips at a 45 angle out the back. I like it. Classic look without the typical two out the back look. Tips cost me all of $22 each.

Just curious, do you have the 292, or the 262 v6? Also, I took my 77 to a shop and got a header back exhaust with my supplied mufflers, carb tuned ign timed, and rockers set right for 150 bucks.

this is my favorite setup, i want to change mine to about the same when i get more cash, total hotrod style, love the slash tips.
