needing some carb help

Hey guys, another question! I have an electric choke carb now and if I replace it should it be with another electric choke or can I get a manual one? I'm low on the play money but need my truck running again!!!

You can go either way pretty easily.  The time to set it up is about the same either way and the cost is pretty close either way.  Its just about preference.  I like an automatic choke.  I like to be able to start it and forget it.

They make a cable for manual chokes you can mount in the cab. Eather way I just keep mine open and don't worry about it just they don't like real cold weather

Electric Choke, Just turn the key and start the engine. I think they are just a little easier.

easer yes but they can fail a manual its either on or off

yeah I guess I'm gonna go with the electric, I got a 305 and I was wondering if a 500cfm would be too small? any help with a size?

I can't say for sure, but 500 should be fine.  I am curious what carb. you are considering that's 500 cfm?

Generally speaking a 350 needs no more than 600cfm to fuel 5500 rpms.
If it is stock and you don't plan to turn the 305 more than 5000, a 500cfm is plenty.

I'm lookin at the Edelbrock 500 cfm. Still lookin for an electric though the site I found them on no longer has them posted

My 305 is all stock! Still has the Q-jet. Whats a decent adapter if needed?

the adapter is pretty standard. have you considered rebuilding your q-jet.

Well its unresponsive. At start up I get nothing at all unless somebody else gives it throttle from under the hood. If you ever let up on it, it dies. Bought it and the truck ran fine 'till one month later and a morning when we had all the snow, rough to start no biggie same ol stuff went to work fine but on the way home I could tell it was ideling rough. Never started up again. Choke light came on once checked that and all hoses etc. I know the carbs bad it was covered in carb cleaner and cob webs when I first got to. Maybe a vaccum leak somewhere I got some REALLY bad hoses. Oh yeah ive got hoses coming out of the carb with screws in it to plug em up so I dont even know how the previous owner got to murdering it but everything under the hood is a mess and needs a total overhaul!!!!
