is this a good buy?
« on: March 24, 2010, 03:01:50 am »
so i have found a place near me that sells rebuilt 700r4 tranys for $550 parts included (not sure what parts) they also sell rebuilt 208 transfer cases for $250. is this a good deal or would i be better off just getting a junk trans and transfer case for like 50 bucks and having them rebuilt? i will be putting them in a 78 k10 that is manual for now, its transfer case isnt bad it is a little leaky though. figure for 250 i might as well just get one.

yeah they both come with a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. its actually a respectable 4x4 shop that does the rebuilding, not just some guy in his backyard... lol.

Had my 700R-4 built here in Ohio by an highly respected shop and paid 700.00 minus the converter. It has all the high performance stuff, servo's, sun shell, extra clutch's, larger pump, shift kit, deep pan, internal lock up wiring. 550.00 sounds good depending on what there doing on the rebuild.

i think its just a basic rebuild but they arnt rebuilding mine. i have a 3 speed manual (+ granny gear) i want to convert to auto. im pretty sure its just close to stock but thats cool with me i wont be doing anything extreme, just want it to be a daily driver, weekend toy. i think im going to get it, so far everyone i asked has said its pretty good deal. so im going to talk to them tommorrow and see if i can get the 700r4 and a rebuild transfer case for $1000 including install and they can have the old manual and t/c, i think it sounds like a pretty good trade. my truck already has the auto steering column so it should be pretty straight forward.
