Taking bad 700r4 out of a 75 c10 and putting a th350 in that I was told was from a 75 c10

Okay. So I got the 700r4 out, put new front and rear seals, trans filter, detent cable, and vacuum modulator in, and new dipstick gasket. Put th350 in got her bolted in, crossmember, and driveshaft

I still need to hook up the detent cable, put the dipstick in, run vacuum line to trans, and change out gear indicator on column.
The th350 tube seems to have a bigger bend on it than the 700r4 tube. Would it be easier to put the tube in from under the truck or under the hood?
I put a brand new vacuum modulator in and read the instructions. Looks like my year and make I dont have to adjust it. Is this usually just a point to start out at or will it still require some adjustment?
Also, what are some things to check before test driving it? I was going to grease the yokes. What about pulling pumpkin and checking rear end lube? I havent driven it much since I got it and never checked before.
I filled the converter as much as I could and slid it on the transmission at a 45 deg angle, trans front facing down,  to get it filled as much as possible. Will it be good enough to fill to the warm level on the stick when I first idle it after starting it up and then top it off after a 10 minute drive or so or will it take longer than that before the trans gets filled with fluid like it should?
What is the correct procedure in adjusting the detent cable? I have a 79 k10 with same carburetor so I should be able to figure out how to connect it but no idea how to adjust it

Thanks

Dipstick tube - usually easier from underneath for me but if you are laying on the ground maybe easier up top for you.

Modulator - run it the way it for now you can always tweak it later if you have to

Fluid level - have about 6 qts handy add 4 then start and run until warm shift it into all the gears while idling to get fluid into all the associated passages. After tranny warms up check level and add accordingly. Test drive then check again before shutting it down. Make sure you have no leaks at most common areas (pan, front and rear seals, lines, filler tube) Then check periododically as you would all fluids.

Other things - check everything you can think of and know how to check it can never hurt to just check something

detent cable?? as in you kick-down cable?

when i was running a TH350.. i picked up an adjustable one form jegs/summit.  i set it to kick-down somewhere between 1/2-3/4 throttle. i would hold the carb oepn about said postion then bring the lever till it just barely touched.. then i would take it for a test drive and see if ti kick-down were i wanted it too.. if it kick-down too soon i legnthen it

i drop 6-7qt in the (dry)tranny b4 startings.. i usually by a 3 gallons when i plan on pullign on apart.

fluid level will be higher when the engien is off... i woudl fill till im mid way to full mark when the engien is off then started it.. it normally will drop off the dip stick or to the very tip of it.. and reverse woudl be the only gear that woudl engage..

BTW when doing this... DO NOT rev the engine in gear. if it dont go in gear add more roughly a pint at a time.
