Passenger side tanks not working
« on: March 29, 2010, 01:04:02 pm »
Installed  the new switch, and seem to be working.... The truck runs fine on the passenger side. I turn off the truck and switch the switch to the LH and put the key forward and does not start. I here the fuel pump on and is on while cranking. I had my wife switch the in cab switch while i was underneath and the fuel pumps switch to the respective sides with the switch

I have replaced the switch and the tank selector valve because i had nothing before.

the guage moves now when i put the ignition forward and flip the switch i thought i was out of gas and faulty gauge, but put fuel in the drivers side and the guage moved.

Any suggestions?

I think it might be the pump on the left side, although i hear it running any way to check it out...

Oh for got to mention it an 87 2wd  305

Do you have a pressure gauge?  I would install it and check the pressure.  You could also switch to the bad one and clamp down the return and see what happens.

Where would i hook up a the pressure guage? what kind?  I will buy one if needed, i do alot of messing around and would probably use it later on.

What would be the best way to tackle this?

There is one specific to the TBI Trucks that hooks before the fuel filter.

Well looked around and found could not find a fuel gauge locally, and would have to order one.  I could not wait, so i decided to do some old fashioned troubleshooting.  I  disconnected the fuel supply line to the selector  valve, and drained it to a bucket, but had no fuel(while crank or prime) come out but heard the pump running. So i dropped the tank and pulled the  fuel pump. And there it was......the hose that connected the  pump to the  fuel supply line was disintegrated. and not connected to the anything but the pump... I touched it and it completely came off.

Went to advance and got new hose and clamps.  installed the tank.......and ......and.....WALA!

I GOT A DUAL TANK SETUP THAT ACTUALLY WORKS!

Gotta love it!
