Exhaust leak
« on: April 05, 2010, 03:36:42 pm »
I have a leak that I think is coming from the collector. It is a 3 bolt flange. I am currently using the donut type gasket. Would I be better of going to the flat gasket or is there another option.

Do you have manifolds or headers?

Is it a continuous problem, or has it developed over time? If its a one time thing, then you should be able to fix it and call it good.

Make sure your exhaust piping is well supported down the line also.

i never had a problem with just the flat gaskets as long as you use bolts with lock washers so they don't back out, i think i got the alum ones from autozone in their "performance" section

Using a high temp locknut on the bolts will help em from blowin out
One type of high temp locknut is a Stover Nut
The threads on the tapered end will be oval or have a triangular shape

Flex type locknuts work well in High temp applications also
