87 pickup - insulation for gas tank straps
«

i will be replacing the gas tank in my 87 short fleet. i have read here on the forum that 30lb roofing felt can be used for tank strap insulation. this looks kind of flimsy, will it work well enough or is there some better alternative?
thanks

Why not use the stock anti squeak kit? It is available.

Have never used felt paper. Most of the time I use strips of rolled rubber roofing. I know several contractors that do torch down flat rubber roves so getting scraps isn't a big deal for me.

I found a small tube from a kids bike and cut it into two BIG rubber bands. I stretched them around the gas tank where the straps sit and they hold themselves in place while you're putting everything together.

Guys, I've used seatbelts for many years. Slop some wheelbearing grease in the groove in the tank, drop it down on the seatbelt & wrap it up to the top, a couple strips of duct tape will hold it in place. Works Great! Lorne

The tank straps fit real tight I don't believe any insulating of them is needed imho.
