Nos door hinges
« on: April 16, 2010, 10:41:51 pm »
I got new strikers with the bushings and the driver's door had some loose hinges. Rather than fight with putting new bushings /pins in I went this route. Not exactly cheap but well worth it imho.

Money well spent, once adjusted your doors should shut like new.

I got them at local chevy dealer and after checking http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ the guy that originally ordered the lower hinge for me was not there and another guy charged me list price so I am gonna go back and demand I get some money back. It should be less than $60.

I also ordered both hinges for passenger side and for some reason they are lots cheaper.........I am taking a printout of the prices from G.M. partsdirect showing what they charge and if my local dealer cannot match the price (or come real close) I am gonna tell them to keep em and order them online instead.

The dealership most likely won't give you GMPartsDirect pricing, as it their pricing is less than wholesale and the local dealership won't sell to the public for less than wholesale,

Hey Chris I ended up getting the passenger side hinges below list after I made a fuss about it.  :)
I got both of them for about $75 list is about $100.

The driver's side is more expensive for some reason. They list for almost $160 for pair.

I have a friend that works at G.M. parts and I call him for parts sometimes he always gives me good prices and he has me pick them up at another chevy dealership but hate to bug him too much and have drive across town.

The guy I know used to work Tom Williams Buick he works elsewhere now I forgot........ I have his number though.

I think guy I bought from was Jeff at Edwards. Yes he gave me both passenger hinges below list but not quite G.M. online price. Price was about $75 for the two.

75 per side v.s. 20 bucks for both sides (4 pins and 8 bushings).... the only difference between installing new bushings and removing the hinges and replaceing them on the bench is only about 20 minutes... if that. its always money vs time....

Not only were my bushings sloppy but the rollers were worn and the spring had a groove in it also.

Btw the drivers's side hinges are lots more expensive for some reason.

i noticed that groove in the spring aswell.. looked almost machined so I didnt think much of it... guess it wasnt supposed to be like that. Door shuts fine, and stayes open so I'm just gonna leave it bee for now. When I replace the bushings on the passenger side, im going to remove the door seal.. see if that will make it easier to adjust..

Pins and bushings is a very quick fix...at least I have never run into any problems.  Takes something like an hour for me.  To change the hinges don't you have to remove the dash to access the top bolt of the top hinge?  If you didn't already have the dash out that could really rack up some time.  Someone please correct me if I have this wrong.
