The 81-87 dashes are pretty different from the 73-80 dashes.  I pretty sure there was only the two.  Who are you u planning on getting it through?  Anyway look on the far right side of the dash if it points out toward the the seat/door panel its an 81-87 if not then its an 73-80.
Also look at the pic that mrbooy17 posted notice how the top of the dash kind of curves in towards the gauge cluster, thats an 73-80 dash.

Cheers for the info bud, I've decided to go the other way and have mine recovered. The cost of shipping to the UK was more than the product itself!!

cheers

Ya, thats it. Those darn covers dont fit because no one will take pictures of them. How about no one will take pictures of them because they dont fit well. Better? Have you tried coverlay direct? Have you tried the SEARCH function??

where are you going to get a new dash from?

I would gladly post pictures if I had any trucks around that the covers installed.

There are 3 dash styles.
73-78 ( no dash VIN)
79-80
81-87(91)

Its ok capt.  I wish I could tell you that I would be getting one through you but unless you could beat 380 to my hands I have to go another route, sorry man.

I could pretty easily beat $380 with an aftermarket dash, which is why I asked where you were getting it from.

GM dashes list for over $400 my cost, I question if you are getting a real GM dash especially for $380.

Be really good friends with the dealership owner and you too can get some really good deals.  I guess the shipping would be what would kill the deal for some.  I am lucky enough to not have to pay it.  #15641405 go ask them what it costs them to buy it and then give them like $10 more.  Hey, they are still making money.

its funny you mention custom moulding a dash board,i work in a plastic molding shop, (rotational mold) i was thinking of removing my bench seat in my 78 c10 and moulding a center console with 2 bucket seats. i would love your input, and could maybe give you a few helpfull hints

well I dont think that Im going to do it right now truck needs to get finished first.  The cost is higher right now for me to build the dash vs buying one.  I dont get a discount on the material that I needed so its not going to work out right now.  Still going to work on it though so I will hit you up.

@ mrboy77:

I'm afraid that is not a coverlay dash cover. That just looks like a dash that has be recovered with some felt or fine carpet. The coverlay dash is a new skin, which makes the dash look like it did when it was brand new. There is no fuzz of any kind on it.

Skunksmash, did you read what he wrote?

yea i put that speaker box carpet stuff on the coverlay dash cover after i checked the fit.  i was skeptical of how it would fit at first but after test fitting it i covered the coverlay....used some good adhesive and about 6 clamps and glued it all on top of the original dash that was cracked to heck.  so that is a coverlay dash cover.  just instead of dying it i tried something different to see what it would turn out like.  the verdict is still out and i cant decide if i like it with that carpet on it or not.

Oh sorry I guess I didn't see that part for some reason. Man, I would change it back. Not knocking your decision or anything but, why did you decide to put carpet on an already good looking cover?
