Hitch options?
« on: May 13, 2010, 09:13:47 am »
My 85 shortbed has been lowered and has a roll pan on it, but I would like to put a hitch back on. The only ones I can find are going to hang down below the pan. does anyone make a hitch that will tuck up and work through my pan? I looked all over and hidden hitch doesn't seem to offer one for our years  :-\

I done a search and made some calls, don't think your going to find a new one. Maybe used or have one modified to fit the roll pan. I just bought one for my 92 w/roll pan. You might look for a shop to make you one.

Check out Hidden Hitch's 82000 multi-fit hitch. You might be able to flip over the main section so the receiver is on top and it might be level with the license plate. Get a flip down bracket for the license plate and you should be good.

Yeah, I was calling around at work and searching the net but I can't find anyone that makes one for our trucks.  and that 82000 looks almost identical to a multi fit reese I have here at the house but it won't work either.   :(

You could always just make your own. I have made 2 hitches for our box vans I think it is 2 1/4 square tubing 1/8th wall and the receiver will fit right in side, then you can mount it where ever you would like you just have to tie it back into the frame rails.

I would do that, but honestly I wouldn't trust my welds enough to pull any weight at all.

You could always go to a welding shop and just get them to make one to your specs and you could always bolt it on after or get them to do it all, I  wouldn't think it would cost too much.

I had my local muffler shop build it with the flip down bracket behind the license.

Irish- I live in Southwest Iowa

I will have to stop by my local steel shop and see what it would cost to have one built.
