Need suggestions
« on: May 13, 2010, 09:49:23 pm »
Ok here is my story! I have an 18 year old daughter that is disabled. She is 100% dependent and only communicates with her eyes. Hard to explain but in her mind she is like any other teenager. We bought her an accessible van a few years ago and I am finding out that she is in to vehicles like me. So I want to fix it up for her so I am looking for suggestions on where to find stuff to fix a van up. It is a 97 chevy 1500. I would like to lower it for her. I dont know where to look for stuff for a van. I know where to get wheels, sterio equipment and stuff like that. But does anyone know where to get other stuff like interior, lowering kits and other accessories? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to do some of this stuff for her graduation present. Her mom and I have never thought this would happen. Thanks in advance.

Most of the truck stuff would be applicable for lowering as far as I know.

i dont know if choo choo customs are still around, but you might try them.

At the very least, you could get some ideas.

i also have some friends who use wheelchairs, so i'll ask them.

I would check with some local rv dealers, see what they have in their showrooms for accesories and ideas. You could also post some pics here and maybe get some ideas from everyone here.

You might try www.vannin.com website. You're to be admired.

You and your wife are special parents indeed.  I can't imagine what the last 18 years have been like for your family.

Not too long ago, Stacey David had a piece on Gearz profiling a disabled man and the van that he customed for himself - just he and some friends.  I went through the episode list but couldn't find it.  Some tell me I'm not dreaming, please?  I remember the van had Lamborghini-style doors and a rockin' interior.

I saw it. It had faces in the uphoulstery
77 c-10 - 77 400 86 700r4 "Emmy"
83 citation - 2.5L Four on the Floor!
88 sierra - reman 350 700r4 "Eleanor"
All normal practicality and rational money handling goes out of the window when it comes to my truck.
