My 85 C20

I got her home last weekend.  It finally quit raining long enough to clean her up some. It is not going to be a show truck.  That being said I plan to change the rims and tires, paint the rear bumper, upgrade the tunes, and ditch the bedliner and running boards, add some diamond plate bed rail caps, maybe a rhino liner, change the front clip to a newer burb style, and have the tailgate painted to match. Long term maybe a paint job

 I have the shocks on hand to replace the rear ones.  A couple of the pictures shows the rear shocks, one that has a bent rod and one that the rod is completely out.  I have been spraying the bolts to hopefully make them come out easier.


I have a couple of questions though.
1.  It has some rust in the bed a few places, do I need to sand or wire wheel those spot before have the bedliner sprayed in ?
2.  What do you think of removing the trim along the bottom ? It is kind of peeling.

That truck doesn't look bad for an '85.  It has a lot of potential, or decent like it is.  I would address the rust as best as you can before burying it in bedliner.  If there is any pitting at all a whire wheel won't remove it all.  An alternating wire wheel then naval jelly (or similar), then wire wheel is what I do, but it still isn't 100% in deeper pits.  I would probably use an aerosol self-etching primer and topcoat on those spots.  I would try to save the trim, at least until you repaint.  Try to stick it back on with a double sided tape.  If you take it off now its gonna look bad.  You can do it at repaint time and you'll have your choice of new trim or none at all.

I got the rear shocks installed.  I also installed some newer 2500 Chevy wheels, and new tires.  I told the PO that the tires were bad.  The second pic the damage occurred after being removed from the truck.  I will get some a picture of the truck posted with some the new wheels.

Unfortunately for the truck I found this new toy the other day.  The truck isn't going anywhere, it just might not get as much attention for a little while.
