What about these adapters...
« on: June 06, 2010, 06:09:53 pm »
What do you guys think of these adapters?

I saw another thread somewhere about those stock 2010 18 inch chevy wheels and I love them in the extreme....   I have 8 lug and the wheels are 6 lug, hence my problem.   I don't use the truck as a 3/4 ton except towing the car hauler every so often (when somebody breaks down) so Weight and usage shouldn't be any worse than a 1/2 ton would get.  so the wheels themselves will be fine, its the adapters I wonder about.

I have a set on my '06 trailblazer to allow for 33" tires....

Check your local laws.  Some states prohibit the, and spacers.

I live in a state that prohibits spacers, but adapters are OK because they bolt to the hub and are not just floating in there.

I have had them on for 4 years with no issues.

The bolt pattern should be fine, the only concern is do you have a full floating rear axle or semi floating. If its the full floater, check center on the hub and see how far it sticks out. If its more than the 2 inches, you will have a problem getting therear wheels on because I dont think the centers of the wheels are big enough to go over the hub. The spacers in the front should be sufficient to clear the hub. Id check for an option of 1-1/2 inch spacers in front and 2-1/2 inch in the rear to pull the rears out a little to help line them up with the body a little better. I have those 18s on my work truck and kinda like them. They look good on squarebodies

Good call.   I have a FF and totally forgot about the axle hubs  I'll check it out.

My Main concern otherwise (I forgot to mention this above ::))  Is the fact the adapters are 2 pieces.  Those 6 bolts that hold everything together torqued to 55ft-lbs has me worried.  I havent seen a 2 piece before.  I'd have no problem using a 1 piece adapter but they arent available for that particular swap.

Went and looked up 14 bolt ff info...   what I found is that it's 2-1/4" from the axle mounting surface to the wheel mounting surface, and i still have to add the thickness of the axle end itself...   Guess it won't work out afterall, as I highly doubt the 6 lug wheels have a huge center hole.  I think the overall would be around 2-3/4 from wheel mounting surface to the outer end of the installed axle, and still gonna have bolts sticking out even more.

Thanks Kelly!   That might have been the overlooked snag that cost me a bundle... :o

I think I may go with the OEM aluminum 16" wheels and some 2 inch spacers.  I'll just swap my current tires over tpo the new wheels and call it a day.   I'm gonna order the spacers this week to put behind my steelies to see if that does what i want, if all's well ill order the aluminum's shortly.

Glad i could help. Id love to see them on your truck, but a 3 inch spacer makes me a little nervous.
