6x6's in the back?
« on: June 14, 2010, 12:27:50 am »
I've got some great Bose speakers out of a Nissan and I'd love to get them in. Right now I just wanna focus on the rear ones. I've been looking at those 6x9 brackets and I've no idea if they're still available, but if so, do you think I could slide a 6x6 in there and drill up a few extra holes?

Also there's that other option of flipping the stock brackets. It's just something I'll have to get back there and check out, but my primary question is whether or not any of you guys with the 6x9's think a 6x6 would fit. I plan on buying one of those retro looking stereos and taking the preamp that came with the Bose setup to it. Also the kick panel speaker setup maybe. I've got more speakers than I've got holes and I'd like to place them all somehow or another.

87 Silverado, by the way.

Thanks

Those bose speakers that come factory in nissans are garbage. The amps are worse, each speaker usually has its own amp, and the amps constantly suffer from cold solder joints and overheating.

And being Bose they are probably some very strange impedance, usually really low like 2 ohms and the amp your are using may not like that. Best to ditch the Bose.

Well how about I have some 6x6's that I'd like to fit into my truck. They're probably whatever brand you like a lot. Could I do this by flipping the 4x10 brackets or even getting the 6x9 brackets?

And also, are the 6x9 brackets still available?

Maybe I'll get the answers I'm looking for now.

I've noticed that almost every speaker sounds better when in an enclosure.  I think the easiest way to put those in your truck is to build a triangulated box that sits in the corner and mount your speaker in it so that the speaker points up and towards the center of your cab.  I don't know much about flipping the bracket or using the 6x9 bracket, but a little bit of scrap wood is usually easier to find.  Just my opinion.

What about 4x10 speaker brackets? My stupid radio keeps going into "protect" mode every time the metal of the speaker touches any part of the metal on the truck. Need some plastic brackets.

bose blows. just my 2 cents. but you should go to a stereo shop and get some plastic speaker enclosures, they are black plastic "bowls" that just fit the speaker. they usally have about a inch lip that you could heat up to make it fit the shape enough to be able to mount it. they cost anywhere from 5-15 bucks, cheaper and alot more slim than the big wood enclosures. although i really dont recommend bose. i have 5 years experience in audio and can say bose is really only good as a whole custom designed system. . id recommend alpine on the cheap ($50-$100), diamond for mid price ($75-$150), or focal at the high end at ($150-$500) those bose will end up costing you more than they are worth.

Yeah I have to agree about the bose. My car audio enthusiast friend say that there is a saying in the audio world: "No highs, no lows, must be bose" lol
