is there any reason why i couldn't brush this stuff on my front and back channels to stop the rust? but according to there website you dont need to put it on bare clean metal or else it won't stick so i guess i don't need to get the rust down to bare shiny metal which is kinda strange

Chassis Saver is designed to be painted directly over existing rust. Not loose, scaling rust but "sound" rusted surfaces. It actually doesn't adhere well unless the surface is rusty. The more pitted the better.
