painting door panels

hi has any one used dupli color or color bond on door panels ..........i used duplicolor on mine but it comes off .....im thinking color bond is a better inside /plastic paint ........any suggestions ........i sanded it down .must did not get it clean enough

I painted mine with cheap primer it stayed on unless it gets scratched or rubbed a lot

Try Krylon Fusion. It's made for plastic.

I went to an auto paint store and bought this stuff called SEM, it is made for doing plastic. I also got their plastic cleaner/prep. I cleaned really good then put a couple coats on, let it dry overnight and they came out great. They look like they are factory and when I tried to scratch them nothing came off. I just sold them and went with custom built ones, whish I would have took pics. The SEM is what alot of custom shops use, it works good, its a little pricy for a can of cleaner and two cans of paint was about $40. You will need two cans of the paint to do both door panels and one can of cleaner. Hope this helps


I have used the fusion paint on an old truck and that stuff sucks, its starts to come off after about 2 months

I used SEM primer, and used their prep they did my door panels great. Lots of light coats is what I did until it was the color I wanted it to be. I gave it 5 minutes or so between coats. I had good luck with it.

I used color bond on mine and it did well but always wash the panels thoroughly and spray the prep on first. I'm getting ready to dye another set- this time I'll use SEM. It's recommended more than any other paint.

SEM is what you want to paint auto interior plastics with. Its made for auto interior plastic. I put some on over a year ago right on the armrest, and it still looks brand new.

I would only use SEM for coloring plastic panels.  I have used it and it holds up better than anything else over time if you apply it correctly.

ok thanks  guys  for ur feedback ...............duplicolor failed ...i bought some color bond ...i'll try this ($30) ....if this dont work i'll get SEM or i just wont paint them ........but from what i hear color bond dont crack,peel or rub off .its permenant .........we will see

Yeah you have to follow the exact instructions on the SEM cans. You gotta have the prep as well as the paint. The prep like eats into the plastic just a little bit... or something. It softens it up and that allows the paint to really dig in and harden like a rock when it dries. At least, that is what I can gather from the instructions.

duplicolor on hard plastic may fail and so can sem, I've had them both do it, prep is key, but mostly all you need to do is use a good wax and grease remover and get it all off. I use krylon fusion on hard plastic like that and it works great.

Ya Clean the platics good with super clean and an abrasive pad and you have to use a plastic promotor of some sort right before you paint and any of those paint products will look good.

The only decent set of panels I had were blue. So I used the SEM it's been nearly two years and they still look good. I've used other products and that's the only one I've found that works well.....

well I use the krylon fusion which is made for plastic and that's what these are, just use grease/wax remover on it first, no need for adhesive promoter but you could use it if you want, and to say a lil' bout how tough it is my atv is painted with it. That thing gets wheeled thru the woods and branches scrape it and rub it, mud dirt rocks you name it, still holds up great.
