real easy question about horns!
« on: July 12, 2010, 02:59:45 pm »
So in an effort to get my recently purchased hunk of rust to pass inspection, I got a new non-mangled steering wheel w/horn button. Put it all together and lo and behold...no honking sounds from under the hood!

After a brief look inside I find no horn. Makes sense as to why the original steering wheel horn button wasn't working.

So here's my question...

On a 78 C10 where is the horn located? I want to see if the original wires are still in place so I can just throw in a cheap autozone replacement. If the wires are gone I'll be asking how to hook one up haha.

Not positive but take a look behind the grill on the radiator support. Thats where they are on my 82.

Yep, no horn in place. Also spent about 30 minutes tidying up wiring and fixing a headlight and turn signal.

So! What do I do to wire up a horn? Where is/what color was the original wire?

The wire runs along the driver side on the inside of the fender and I think it is a green wire. Mine has two horns. The wire continues across the radiator support to the 2nd horn.

Look here   http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=11766.0.  Posted by capt,   I used it when I got my 74 k10 step side, came in very helpful hooking up my horn among other things and cleaning out all the useless wires.
