This is a pic of what use to be the oil pan and block on the original 305 in my 82. Believe it or not it still ran! I drove it on and off the trailer and started and moved it around several times. We even drove it down to the gas station about 6 blocks from my house once. I found chunks of connecting rod all over the place. Even had piston rings stuck in the front suspension! Just thought I would give it some credit for being a little trooper!!! To this day it will still turns freely. The guy told me it had a little nock when I called about buying it!LOL.... Good thing I was buying it for a project and not a driver!

Mine looked about the same but it didn't run.  :D Looks good. get that 355 in there

Put in some oil, you'll be fine(d by the EPA).

Best running small block hands down I have ever owned out of the hundreds I have had, was a 76 305 out of a Camaro. I took it out of a way rusty 74 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4, and dropped it into my 81 GMC Jimmy. Swapped a new oil pan, factory cast iron manifold, and a rebuilt quadrajet onto it. Ran like a top for years. Never added oil except for oil changes.

I have seen a shop once take a Volvo engine that threw 2 rods they changed the rods and I think the crank but they just jb the hole in the block and that was it

My 400 just put a hole in the pass side of the oil pan. Maybe we could combine the 2 into 1 good motor.

here's a broken tipped pushrod out of my '87 305.  the engine ran perfectly, no wierd sounds...

Could you tell me which shop it was as i have an "outside" volvo project waiting in the wings that may need some extensive engine work.

nice motor i think i see your problem with oil loss. lmao i still run a 305 backed by sm465 and np208 in my 81 k10 and shes never done me wrong, never had to walk home except once but my gas gage doesnt work and these trucks dont run on dreams.
