I don't think axles are going to add any lift, springs is what does that.

I don't think driveshafts get changed for 6 inch unless they are too short already or cause some bad vibrations later.

Pretty sure you need some extended brake lines and not sure where to get them without getting braided ones from lift companies or like summit or jcwhitney.

I can only take a shot in the dark and guess they'd clear, we had an 86 half ton clear 33's stock, so 6 inch should clear 39's but then again a tire that is 5 inches taller by size is only going to be 2.5 difference in the fender to tire clearance. Half of it 2.5 is on top and the other is on bottom, so it's basically only 2.5 closer to the fenders, which doesn't sound like much, but each truck is different. I've seen guys who can't clear 35's on a 4 inch lift, and we could have stock probably.

38.5" tires will not clear with a 6" lift if you hit any kind of bump.  Unless you trim out fender wells.
Brake lines will have to be lengthened, they will not reach.
Driveshafts should be lengthened or you run the risk of pulling out the yolk at the back of the tranny if you really get on it. ( It is quite funny to see that happened )

Now your going to get 3 diffrent ansewers lol. 38s shouldn't clear with only 6"you might make it you might not why take a chance even turning at somespeeds will roll the body then what.  with 6" go with the stainless brake lines. You will need them, you could just take the brake c clip from the brake mount and make it up bur now you have brake lines rubbing on metal.  Your shafts will be OK its more of the frontshaft being the problem due to it being extended to the max then if you have it in 4 wd you can cause wear then a bad vibration but just as a driver you will be OK. Put in a body lift now or you will be doing fender trimming later

Leave er stock height, and get out the sawzall. Fit them 38's no prob. Don't even need to get longer brake lines.

heres mine with 6 inch lift, 38 inch Super Swampers. Driveshafts work ok,but I would lengthen them if you are gonna do any serious offroading. I removed the clips that hold the hard brake lines in place, and bent the hard lines down a but. This is only temporary until i can get the new lines in. Driving straight, and normal corners, everything is fine. Mine rubbed when I hit bumps going into corners. If I trimmed the lower corners of the front fenders, everything would have been ok, Im just not into butchering this truck.

nice truck choptop, looks freakin awesome.

I aint into cutting either, maybe if it was rotted out and would get rid of the rot, then maybe but I like to leave the body un cut. Now drilling holes for accessories is ok with me lol. Good to see somebody with a 6 inch lift an 38's that's close to the OP's question on what they want. Not sure on how good it'd turn out but maybe if you need just a atad more then a 6 inch maybe do some zero rates front and back and that'd add about an inch. Regular blocks are illegal for front use but zero rates you can use as far as I know, and it allows you to move the axle front or back an inch or straight on. if not may need some 8 inch springs up front and a reverse hanger/shackle in back and some 4 inch springs or something, or full spring with add a leafs, or maybe even blocks and springs out back.

Thanks Swims350, I like it. It no longer has the 38"s tho. I didnt like the rubbing when hitting dips in corners so I went with 35's. I want this thing off road capable whether I take it off road or not.Never know when the urge may strike to go mudbogging. Here's how she sits now.

No the lift will be the only thing to lift your truck.

Just make up some brackets off of your frame going lower then the original holes, drill some holes, buy longer steel lines that went to your rubber hoses and bend em to meet the stock rubber hoses in the bracket's holes. Thats all I did, it was easy, and I replaced alot of steel brake line that were rusty.

Im not sure about the driveshaft.

I have 37 in tires with a 6 in lift on my 87 Chevy and it clears them, but I wouldnt go any bigger. Go with Pro Comp 37's, there prices are decent and the tread is aggressive but works well on the highway.

Heres some pics of what i was talkin about (first two of the brake line brackets, rear is welded on, front are bolted onto a bracket allready existing on truck, 3rd picture of my truck sitting on 37in Pro Comps

i have 38.5x14.5 tsl's on an 85 stepside. like other have said it will rub the fender while turning and hitting a bump. my truck does not do it on the street but when backing out of the drive way at full lock it will rub. i am going to step down to 37" goodyear humvee tires for the street.
