need help quick!

So i finally got my new carb to get the truck running and edelbrock sent a little how to vid and it explains all the extras it sent. Anyway I watched it to see whats what and now i have a question of course! Am i going to need a fuel filter since the carb deosnt have one? I was trying to get it done today but if not no biggie its been setting for a few months anyway! Swapped the 305 to a 350 and the carb was bad on that one too so I just purchased the edelbrock not thinking of anything else but the carb! If i do need the filter anybody reccomend a certain kind? here in a small town im probly gonna have to special order and wait till monday! all we have is a napa and prices either kill you or make you drive 100 miles to the nearest parts store

yes you will need a fuel filter. Right now on my 73 I got a Mr. Gasket universal one with the replaceable mesh filter. I run a Q-Jet with AN fittings, so ill be switching to a filter with AN fittings. I think pretty much any universal one you should be good.

Ya a fuel filter is a must. I actually have 3 on mine ha. One after each tank before the selector valve, and one right before the carb.

Edelbrock's usually come with a little screen but yeah, I'd put one of those inline ones. Did you cut the metal fuel line and replace with rubber? You can just use a 3/8" barbed lined one. Right before the carb is best.

I'm not sure how things go on a truck with a mechanical fuel pump.  I think I remember seeing my neighbors truck with the filter right before the carb.  With my electric pump, I run one before the pump and one right before the carb.

Mine didnt come with a screen just all the gaskets, plugs and wires! They didn't have one in yesterday so had to order it and gotta wait till Wednesday! Now another NEWBIE mistake I made was order the carb without EGR! AND now I see that the EGR is in the way!!! Is there an EGR delete kit or do i get another intake? Whats my way around without having to wait for another carb? I also just bought a universal square bore adapter and not the edelbrock one. I've noticed that the edelbrock one looks like it makes way for the egr but will i still have any issues? Sorry for the novel! This is my first actual build project! I'm just used to bolt on's for my MAGNUM!!!

The fuel filter should be in stock at any auto parts store.  You cut the factory steel line somewhere around where it bends to go over the intake and replace it from there on with 3/8" fuel hose.  At the auto parts store there should be fuel filters with all the aftermarket carbs and related accessories.  There should also be fuel filters in boxes that will work where they keep all the factory replacement filters, you just might have to look through some boxes.  The best setup is an intake that will fit your square bore Edelbrock carb. without provision for EGR.  This would be almost any aftermarket intake but you could only get away without the egr if you don't get local emissions testing.  Most people don't like using the adapter plate as they restrict flow.  I guess if you really don't want to mess with removing the intake you could use the adapter and delete the egr with a fabricated plate and stock gasket.

Im registered as a classic so no inspection!  Texas aint too big on emission requirements as far as i know. The p.o.'s only thing emission wise is the EGR, stait dual pipes and inspected so i dont think ill have issues there. Believe it or not they didnt have a fuel filter at all so i just ordered the kit edelbrock reccomended. Its inline, has the chrome filter, adapters, clamps, hose and banjo adapter  think thats to make way for the air filter! I think im just gonna wait and see what the edelbrock adapter does then go from there. If not, i'm gonna look into trying an EGR delete, but if all fails gotta research new intakes and the adapter will be pointless!!!

funny you mention fuel filter, I just spent the past hour on my back up under a '95 Taurus.  Those filters are under the right rear passenger seat under the chasis.  And, because of the floor pans and gas tank the space even there is cramped.  I had to loosen the mount to get the canister filter out the holding clamp.  The two lines are held on only with a plastic tab that just slides out w/ pliers.  Doesn't seem too secure, but, i guess it works.  I took a plastic water bottle and blew the gas out the intake side of the filter and that bottle filled up with dirt, dirt, and more dirt.  The input hose at the filter seemed a little kinked too, so I straightened it out.  There was a problem w/ the car cutting off, I assume the fuel pressure became too low due to fuel filter and kinked fuel line.  Now she works fine!

Judging from what came out of that fuel filter, Yes! put a fuel filter on that puppy. Who knows what's in this junk for fuel nowadays.

Where are you buyin' your fuel Del?  I know there are some places I avoid in my truck because the fuel will plug filters quickly. 
Also, not a good idea to get gas right after the tanker has dumped a load in the ground, all the sediment in the underground tanks is stirred up with the addition of the new fuel.  Also, if you're only paying .68 a gallon for gas, that might be a bad sign!! lol

No kidding the last thing i want is to ruin a brand new carb!!! I did find a q jet in my gramps shop but its off a BB and manual choke so i dont know if it will work?

I bought both my inline filters are wal-mart they were fram I think and plastic, see thru that had nippled on both ends to clamp the rubber hose to, and you can even take it apart and change/clean the filter, but for that price which was like $3-5 might as well just change it.

But yes any parts store should have some universal or inline filters for under $20 most cases under $10.

ok well i ordered the EGR delete kit from power performance should be in monday and the filter on wednesday! I'll keep everybody posted and let everybody know i finally finished something!!!!

it's not on a quadrajet intake is it? 2 small holes and 2 large holes? if so you may need the spreadbore to square bore adapter we did, and we had to have the egr block off plate you mentioned on the 84 so the carb would sit down flat.
