350 cleanup

Tomorrow is the day that I begin the motor cleanup on the 82. It has 10k on the build, but leaks everywhere because it sat in a barn for 10 years. I have been collecting parts for a while, so tomorrow I'm pulling the motor, putting in a fel-pro gasket kit, painting everything, installing an edel performer intake, cheap o'reilly flowtech headers, and building a dual exhaust for it. I will be using some Por15 on the frame and painting some in the engine compartment also. I hope to get it done so I can drive it to work on Monday.

definately take some pics,   i just did the same thing on my 355,   the pics helped a ton when putting it back together!!

Well I wasn't able to get the exhaust built, but the motor is nice and shiny now and I was able to drive it out of the shop and park it until I can work on it tomorrow. I will post pics tomorrow. It sounds pretty terrible running straight off the headers. I picked up a couple Cherry Bomb turbos today to put behind it, and I have to build a bracket from the header bolt to the power steering pump, tie the plug wires up and out the way, dial the timing back in and top off the coolant and I should be good to go.

Terrible - as in, get out of my way the C60 grain truck is comin through   It keeps saying my pic files are too large. How do you shrink them down and what format do you use? I tried opening them in MS paint and saving as a .tif and a .gif but it won't let me attach those either.

In paint, you have to shrink them.

i save the original files in photobucket and then paste the link. no shrinking needed.

Thanks, I will try that and see if it works. I just got some exhaust pipe flared to fit the headers and mufflers. If all goes well tonight I should be able to at least get the mufflers on and the H pipe built. I want to build a new, higher clearance rear bumper and receiver hitch before I run the duals out the back. I also picked up some asbestos sleeves to go over the plug wires to keep them off the headers. So far I think the Flowtechs are a pretty poor fit as far as wire clearance goes, and I foresee myself replacing a few plug wires before I finally chuck them in the scrap iron barrel and buy some better ones.

I mocked up the exhaust tonight and set the timing. Here is a pic from last night with the motor back where it belongs.

Well here's what I ended up doing with the power steering pump bracket. I took the 2-piece p/s, AC bracket from my 84 parts truck, scribed the paint where they mesh together, and took it off and welded it. Then I trimmed away all of the extra and left enough of a web behind it for strength, painted it up and bolted it back on. The belt tracks perfectly straight, and it's cleaner under the hood like this. I saved my original 2-piece bracket so that I will have it next summer when I hook the AC back up. Here is before, during, and after pics of the bracket.
