If you search "headliner repair how to" or "how to repair a headliner board", there are a couple good picture sights.
Basically, you need to start with the removal. Be very careful, or you will be looking into the second post more. The foam/cardboard type material gets brittle and cracks easier on these years, especially as big as the burbs are. the areas around the visors and dome lights can be harder to keep together.
Next, remove the old fabric from the board and scrape or brush clean (very clean) the old board. If you have any cracked or broken places on the board, these can be repaired with duct tape. I have also seen somewhere the use of something like fiberglass resin. Just attach the pieces back together or repair a crack.
Make sure whatever material you buy has a backing or add a backing. Thin fabric can leak the glue through.
Lay the fabric on the board and make sure it will cover with some overlap. You will trim to fit last.
After fitment just fold over the fabric and use a spray adhesive and spray the board and fabric. Be careful when you lay the fabric down as to keep any wrinkles out. Also, have clean hands. It is easy to get dirt on the headliner and harder to remove it.
After it is glued down and smoothed, wrap they edges. Make sure you watch corners and trim holes, you may have to cut pie sections to make a wrinkle free wrap.
After it is wrapped trim the excess leaving about an inch of overlap that will be glued also.
It is easier than you think. Have lots of space and a clean area.
Sorry I don't have pics right now, but I will be doing my 83 SWB soon. I don't have a headliner in it, and I will be salvaging one out of a parts pickup. I will try to remember to take pics. Most of the time I get wrapped up into the work and fail to take during pics.
