87 chevy pickup head liner

my headliner finally lost its adhesive and now is hangin low! ...I have seen other older chevy trucks just remove that piece of wood and have the metal showing and it looks better then the headliner what should i DO???remove it or replace it?

I would take it out finish removing the cloth, then use a quality spray adhesive and re attach it. Then reinstall. I have done a couple trucks for other people They went to the sowing / cloth section of the local chain store and got a patterned material to replace the original with.
