spoliks build
« on: August 08, 2010, 07:07:34 am »
ok i'm still a newbie here. thought id start my build thread. i'm building one truck from 3.

this is my shorty ive been wheeling for years

then i found a mint frame so i brought it home.

as you can see i plan on shorting this frame .. i just can't let go of a shorty

i then got a part truck $200

so i started to strip down the part truck.

had to give the engine back to the guy i got it from :( but   but i have 3 sbc350 4bolts so not a big deal..

and this is about where im at. still working on it.. the front windshield cracked while trying to remove it.. :(  but i felt better once i though a hammer through it .... lol  hopefully will be able to keep up with all the pics and progess.......

That GMC looks pretty straight.  Why didn't you use that frame?

got a little more stripping done.
firewall stripped, windshield cracked during removal, so to make me feel better a hammer went through the rest of it.

got the inside stripped.

as for not using this frame, heres a couple pic of where it's rotten and previous owner tried to fix.

got some more done today, box off housings out ,ready to be pulled to scrap yard..
setting box on other frame to keep it out of the way for now..

truck with no panels or box..

back shot of truck without box...

box sitting on other frame, had to put my old tail gate on so sides wouldn't cave in.

picked up the rear with crane to pull rear end , didn't think the frame was gonna hold up..

same for the front, crane to lift ,to pull the front housing.

truck sitting on the four leaf springs, waiting for the ramp truck to pull her away.

another pic of the rotten frame , this was the left rear frame rail. just after the fuel tank..

and just a pic of the housing sitting on floor, im thinking im going to use these housing under my cj-7....

hopefully there will be more to follow...

just scrapping the blue cab and frame. i'll prob fix the other shorty frame and hang it out back, as a just in case frame..
the blue cab could be fixed but my white cab is in better shape so i plan on using it. i need to get this built as it plows my driveway in the winter.

Looks like a good project.  Seeing the pictures of the rust on that frame make me appreciate the relatively rust free frames I am used to in Texas.

yea that's the one I was talking about, I wished I had a cab and frame or whole truck for that matter but one piece at a time would be good, but on my budget I'd have to get freebies and they'd be probably worse then scrap LOL

well the blue cab and frame are gone, i took the blue box back off the lwb frame and measured, then measured, then measured, and today i finally cut the frame, shortened it and re welded, i think it looks OK so far, but i still need to weld the inside and plate the inside  for strenght,, i got a couple of pics, I'll try to upload soon.

frame cut and pulled together, forgot to take a pic with the peace missing

welded up, painted to see how it looked

frame is painted with rock guard
