Pennsylvania safety inspections ???
« on: August 10, 2010, 08:53:58 pm »
I just applied for a job in PA.  Applied being the key word.  The office is in West Chester which would require relocation to the area.  What am I looking at as far as safety inspections?  I read as much as I could on line but it doesn't define the rust real well.  Anyone from PA care to comment?

this is what I think about pa I live in MD so doesn't matter but in most states you cant have holes but you can have rust just not rusted out. in DE I had my cab corners gone in my 86 but they passed me don't know why but they did might have been they were hard to see cause the two tone was white on blue so I think the blue covered it up a bit. As long as its surface rust you should be OK I think the main thing is so that no exhaust gases get into the truck

in MD all you would need to do is get historic tags then no inspection at all

In PA-
By county, but for West Chester (Chester And Delaware counties)

Emissions unless it is 30 years old, or is driven under 5000 miles after first year here. Visual on Smog controls (A.I.R., EGR...)

Safety- All lights must work, 2 brakes are checked(inspectors random choice), and NO BODY HOLES, Horn, tire wear and tread, ball joints....

In Mass people get around the rust hole rule by just covering the rot hole up with duct tape. As ridiculous as it may be technically it does eliminate the rot hole so the vehicle will pass inspection. I see it more often than you would think.

Thanks for all the replies... I doubt if offered that I would accept the job anyway due to the much higher housing costs, taxes versus where I am at now.  Just trying to get a feel for PA and their ways.  Will keep everyone posted....

Wow Indiana is that inexpensive ?
I live around 30 to 40 miles from West Chester I have 7.5 acres and pay less than 2500 a year in taxes.
