MY '85 chevythang!!!
« on: September 05, 2010, 03:52:23 pm »
Decided to finally start a rides thread!!! I noticed I post everywhere and lose track sometimes, so here I am to consolodate.

The chevy thang is just that!!! When I picked it up it had gmc and chevy parts all around so thats how it got its name. Its an '85 shortbed in the works. I've got projects left and right for it. Probly too many at once but I get bored with one and move on to another. Keeps me busy!!! Will update later with pics

Heres what I got going:

PROJECT BLACKHEART, My first ever engine build. Dont know what im doing but having fun learning it! 350, painted black, vortec heads, ordered comp cams thumpr series cam, some lifters, and looking into some intakes right now. Just getting things here and there as I learn.

EZ wire harness ordered and coming in, due to my tailights shorting out and me finding a mess of wires everywhere, just wanna clean things up the right way

New weather stripping trim coming in, while checking my fuses found that the cardboard between the firewall is falling apart and damp, just hoping theres no rust in the cowl. shouldnt be its a pretty solid truck but you never know!

White gauge overlay that im going to start on once i start to re-wire everything. Just another project to keep me busy

I've got the all clear tail lights, clear side markers, crystal clear headlights with HD harness, aluminum radiator with electric fans, speakers, subs, and amps, that all need to be installed. universal sunroof. mmmm probly missing little stuff here or there but just getting my pieces and putting it together little by little.

how do you like the thumper cam? Did you get the kit with the lifters and gear drive or just the cam?

What radiator and fan setup do you have? How are you mounting the fans? Im still deciding on how to mount mine. I really dont want to use the nylon zip tie setup. I did find some fan brackets, just need to check my radiator to see if they might work.

I'll post em up asap.

The cam was a deal at summit, I had to order lifters
The radiator:

Not installed yet, I'm gonna wait until I put in the EZ harness, but did see if it would be direct fit and dropped in fine.

I checked my fuses once over again to see if i had missed any. My wiper fuse was out but the wipers work so I just replaced it and like magic...... lights work again??? Like I said its a mess anyways so might as well do it right and not be confused. I did a little test to see what else was wired wrong. gauge lights are to im guessing the trailer hook up fuse. choke fuse and radio are swapped??? I have no idea why anybody would do it like that but beats me  :-\.

Good thread!

I've got a couple questions if you don't mind...

1) how thick is that radiator INCLUDING the fans?
2) do you have some details about the LED lights you're using and how you made em work if they aren't plug-n-play.

Thanks bud!

1) still don't have it hooked up but when I checked for the fit, it's just a bit bigger than the OE but the fans are pretty flush. In the end there's alot more clearance
2) the LEDs were 1157 and 1156 streetglow. Just plug-n-play. Did have problems with the driver side, but thats just my 25yr old harness. It was a bit loose but played with the connections and mad it seat tighter. Still needing to order LEDs for the side markers and the third tail light bulb. Finally found some that dont have colored housing and match with the streetglow.

Posting up my daytime shots with my drop!

I need to buy some new chrome trim and they'll really clean up nice. For anybody that gets this and places the chrome trim on them be carful the black trim on the inside will scratch and make it look bad!!! I got lucky and just a little spot but coverd over it with some black duct tape to protect it further

Here's my stock to dropped shot. Had purchased some drop shocks to install with a kit and some lowering leafs in the rear. Placed both on and this is the result. Want to go lower in the front for sure but doesn't look too bad. I hate those tahoe wheels and have 6 rallys that came with the truck. 4 white that are in pretty bad shape and 2 of the one on the rear. Had to use it as a spare. Wheels will probly be the next purchase after I get my LQ4 all tied up. Wont go any bigger than 22's but wanting to go with 20's to see how they turn up first. Looking at some INCUBUS Banshee or Paranormal. While I'm thinking about it whats the lug pattern? 5x5? Hope you all like. Enjoy!!!
