98 5.7 swap
« on: September 13, 2010, 09:59:45 am »
Hey im a little new here but ive seen that there is a lot of knowlage on this site, i have a 1985 gmc serria k1500. it has a 305 in it but i have an opportunity to get a vortec 5.7 with the computer and wiring harness. i was wondering if anyone has done a swap from carborated to the new fuel injection. i have the understanding that i could still use my th 700r4 as lone as i notch it out for the crank sensor and get the right torq converter. if anyone has and tips or can re direct me to a place that would help me out it would be a big help

It would pretty much be a bolt in.  If you can get the trans with it you could have the electronic trans control.  not sure what you mean by notching it out for a crank sensor.  A 4L60 (700R4) is the same as a 4L60E minus the electronics.

You will need to get an intank pump for an 87 pickup (think up to 93 will work) and you need a AC241 high pressure intank pump.  You will also need to upgrade all your rubber hose to EFI spec and you will need an actual return line to bleed the pressure.

Thanks Captkaos i will be running a fuel cell so i wound have to run a different fuel pump, i wont be able to ge the tranny with it so i will have to run my 700r4, the whole crank sensor thing was just something i herd that i might have to do.  My biggest concern is the whole running of the wire harness and computer with hooking up the ignition.
