just above the doors. what are they called. i would like to remove. them if i can. this is for a 87 k5 blazer

I think they are called gutters.  You can remove them but they are screwed on and it would be best to weld the holes shut.

I'm not sure of the technical name but when I replaced mine the order stated cab trim. Which I know is the moldings underneath the rear window and around to the bottoms of what your talking about. Mine were bolted in and easy to remove. It helps if you can get the chrome trim off first but youre probly going to scrap them anyways so its still easy to remove them with the trim on.

Gutters, aka drip rail moulding. There is half a dozen or so hex head screws that hold each one on, but like jared said, if you remove them, seal up the holes.

^  Yep  Drip Rail Mouldings. 

The chrome part just snaps on the back part.  Pry the crome off from the bottom side and then you can use a ratchet or nut driver to remove the bolts.  If you dont want to do that, a combo wrench will get them off just as good but a little slower.
