You can try tapping on the top of the carb. near the fuel bowl and see if it will unstick (assuming its the float sticking). The problem will still have to be addressed and soon. Definitely change your oil. Smell it like Irish said--it probably smells like gas and will destroy your engine.

It has to be the carb. Getting spark but seems to be flooding out. Fooled with it a little this morning but gotta go to work now. Off on Thursday so hopefully i can fix it then. I'm thinking of taking the carb off and removing the top and checking things out. Will post updates. Thanks for all the suggestions.

No need in removing the top half just a Carb problem change the fuel filter also while you're at it

Irish, not clear on what you mean. "no need in removing the top half"? I need to remove the air bowl to check the floats for adjustment and to see if they "float", don't I? If there's another way, please advise. I have one of those clear in-line fuel filters up by the carb. Took it off and cleaned it last night. Was kinda dirty. That's why i suppose something may be causing something to get stuck open in the carb like a needle and seat. Thanks.

you could try tapping the carb on the side a little bit to see if the needle starts to seat. You don't have to take the carb off the engine to pull the top, just makes it easier.

So, today I checked the floats and readjusted to edelbrock specs, replaced needles and seats, cleaned all parts really good with cleaner and STILL won't start! Could my truck have jumped time some how? I don't have a timing light or a vacuum guage. It is firing and it is getting fuel. Silly question, but is there a fuse somewhere that could be blown? I consider myself mechanically inclined but I don't have a whole bunch of diagnostic experience. Any suggestions are once again, greatly appreciated.

Its possible for your timing chain to slip did you fix the fuel problem. Also try taking out the plugs maybe fuel is still sitting in the cylinder

Ran out of daylight. It's so close to starting. I will check the plugs for fuel in the cylinders and go from there. Thanks again to all.

I am kinda sad and excited at the same time! I took another look at what was going on Sunday morn with a buddy of mine. Even got another distributor and tried it out. Well, comes to find out that either my camshaft is busted, timing gear busted, or something is just plain wrong on the inside. Removed the passenger side valve cover to see what happens when we turn it over. Not much movement at all. Also, I took this pic. Would bent rods cause this? Gonna start tearing out down on Wednesday and see what's up. Ol' pawpaw might get a heart transplant sooner than planned!

I'm dying to see what caused that too. Yeah I guess a bent pushrod could do that, but two or more seems unlikely. Broke timing chain/slipped timing and valves hit the piston crossed my mind, but I dunno.

bent pushrod, dropped lobe, broken or weak spring , bad lifter all will cause the rocker to fall of.
