Longbed Stepside Questions
« on: October 07, 2010, 09:29:35 pm »
There is the rear half of a truck around the corner from me, for sale.  Guy says he was gonna use it as a trailer and never finished it.  Considering it as a starting point for a total custom project, but want to know more about it, only thing is it has no floor.  Were all longbed stepsides wood floor?  Also, can the stepside bed used in extreme drop cases, laying frame, etc without moving the fenders up?  Anyone have a pic of a slammed longbed stepside?  Thanks in advance.

As far as I know all of the stepsides with both 6' and 8' had the wood floor.
This is then floor of my 8' stepside.
It has the Suburban gas tank swap with the filler mounted inside the toolbox.

You get a little more clearance with a stepside fender and the tires are contained in it.
All of them has wood beds regardless of length.

how well would the stepside respond to a c notch?  I would not be putting wood back in, it would have a steel floor grafted in.  Would the fenders need notched as well?  Or do I not need a notch to lay frame?  Sticking with 29" tires if that helps and building 2x4 tube frame, so the notch and "z" will be incorporated.  Still in the planning stage, not sure if I like the look of a stepside, it would just be very different.  Thanks for the help.  Would still like to see some slammed stepsides, longbeds especially.
