bed replacement questions..

I need a need bed.  The body has had lots of hard use the past 32 years.  I have a near perfert bed at the pick n pull that will cost me only $150.  The only problem is the driver side of the bed is bad from an accident.  My 79 k10 driver side is in good shape.  Should i buy the 86 short bed at the yard and use my 79 short bed driver side and make a need bed?  Will my 79 drivers side attach the the 86 ok.   I noticed that I will need to do some welding on the back.  Will the 86 tailgate fit ok with the 79 side on the 86 bed?  please give me some help..   

Or should i just wait and pay more for a complete short bed?

how did you take the bed off all by yourself?  how did you houst it up off the frame?

You should be able to use a cherry picker and straps to get the bed off by yourself.

Would u piece a bed together like I mentioned above in the post?

I probably wouldnt, only because I am not that good at welding and body work. Plus I dont have the time to do so.
