interchange guide
« on: October 29, 2010, 05:05:28 am »
Hey everybody,
I'm new to the site and also a new owner of an 85 c-10. Excited to start tearing down so I can build it back up. I wanted to ask is the any good interchange books out there or is it safe that most parts from 81 to 87 will swap and fit my 85?? Thanks

Pretty much all 81-87 interchange.  84 on up for steering column and dash.

Welcome.  Once you've been reading through this site for a while you'll get the idea of what things changed and when.  Any questions just post 'em up and someone here will know.

thanks. this truck is an 85. the steering column has the wipers, high beams on the directional lever. is this right or is it an aftermarket or newer column? it has a 3 speed on the floor. under the hood i can see where it looks like it was a column shift manual transmission originally. any input would be great. thanks

Yes, the integrated wiper/dimmer switch started in 1984 so yours is correct to the truck.

Three speed stick only came on the column. The SM465 has 4 gears but is really a 3 speed with low. They are on the floor.

It looks like the guy before me converted the 3speed on the column to the floor. Hopefully he did it right and I won't have to back track that too.

90% of those floor shifters even when done right are junk!

i know the 3 speed is horrible  >:(. it seems to work and shift fine just not very fun to drive. you have to reach so far to go to second gear. i rather be pulling second down then pushing it under the ash tray. i'll definetily be putting a 4 speed in at some point.
