champion radiator fitment?
« on: November 05, 2010, 07:53:26 pm »
Hey guys I just had a question. I ordered a champion rad for my truck. Welded aluminum 2row with dual electic fans and was curious if anyone else runs this setup and has any fitment issues or compaints. I've had a single efan on my truck for awhile but its onw for a thirdgen fbody so I had to make it work lol.

Talking about the three core on the ebay? I bought the three core and e-fans. They do not provide the connectors and I ain't sure where to get them but you can use regular blade connectors. Plus you gotta get the fan thermostat wiring with relay either from autoparts store or summit.

The radiator supports have to modified a little bit, but it fits. The fans come with a mounting kit that comes through the radiator fins like this:

I'm nervous about vibration causing a hole in the radiator. I bought the rad/fans combo cuz it's hard to beat that price. If I get time to fabricate a mount for the fans, I may pull the the thermostatic clutched fan off the engine and run the electric ones. Might need a higher output alternator since I'm also running an electric fuel pump.

I got it friday and I opened the box so far and it looks real good just one of the fans had a plastic piece broken but nothing that will hurt the way it works and nothing a littlw glue will not fix but I'm going to email the company anyway with pictures. I think it will be ok without the fans hitting the rad I may even space them away a litte with some washers between the fans and foam mounting pads. Again I have no internet at my new house yet so ill get pictures when I can :/

I have the same radiator and fan combo. The radiator went in fine with new radiator pads. I bought two GM alternator wire extension wires in the electrical section at the parts store. I cut them in half and wired them to the fans so they disconnect quickly because I couldnt find leads that work with what came with the fans. I havent mounted the fans yet because I dont want to use the nylon kit it comes with. Im thinking of getting these....

Other than that, I am completely happy with the radiator and recommend it to anyone.

Been a long weekend with me working 68hrs at my job this past week and having a 2yr old and daughter and 10month old pup and moving/painting our new house so the truck hasn't been touched yet :/. I need to instal my new flexplate also. I can't wait to get the house situated so I can get the truck back together so I can start driving it again.
