Dana 44 year
« on: November 07, 2010, 06:57:25 pm »
I'm currently rebuilding a dana 44 front axle to put under my 1988 k5 blazer.  The problem is I have no clue what year this axle is and I need to know so I can buy parts for it.  The only numbers I can find on this axle are 2, 33838 (I believe this is the model number) and 44-8f.

There is NO bill of materials number on this axle.  I have completely removed all the rust off of both the axle tubes and there is not one number to be found on either axle tube anywhere.  I looked and looked and looked and looked again there is just no BOM number on this axle.  Can anyone help me?

Most times parts are interchangeable but if you want an ideal then look at your tie rod. if it mounts on top so the nut is sticking down and the left side(divers side) tie rod is long goes past to the pumpkin then it’s a 73-76.. If it mounts from the bottom to the top so the nut is on top of the knuckle then it’s a 76-80. and if the divers side is short and the passenger side is short with a long adjusting sleeve connecting them then it’s a 81-87

alright thanks man, its mounted from bottom with the nut on top (pic).  I've been looking up parts for a 1978 k20 so looks like I'm good.
