Radio!
«

Hey Gang, i need to upgrade my radio. The old kenwood from the early 90's is toast. I would still like the keep the old style radio with the 2 posts. I hope they still make the post style! Also can i put speakers in the door? My friend told me I can because of the windows hitting the speaker, is that true?
Thanks
Chris

they will fit in your door fine, just put the window all the way down to be sure they won't hit, before you install them. two post radios are harder to find but you can find them. they'll just cost a little more. another option is to cut the dash to fit a newer stlye radio, had mine in about 20 minutes of careful cutting

Hey man heres a link to a speaker install in the door. He puts in 6x9 speakers I think. Its not all that in depth but itll give u a look at what youre getting into if youve never had your door pannels off. The guy in this install puts in a newer looking stereo but im with you 100% on keeping the older looking model one. I think the Captkaos who runs this site sells a pretty nice stereo.

I personally wouldn't put the speakers "IN" the door.

They will work in the doors as long as you mount them low enough. If you do put the speakers in the doors, make sure the outer lower window seal is good or replace it or they won't last long from water. you can also fab up a water shield inside the door so rain wont hit the speaker. The doors is the one place that will actually give you decent bass in these trucks though. I put mine in the door because I do not want a sub box because space is so limited, and now I don't need one.

I didnt see you had power windows... I've never put speakers in a power window door, I don't know how that will work. I only know for sure it works in manual window doors.

I got a set of doors from a donor a few weeks ago and they had a small (4" I think) speaker in about the same location as the speakers in 78chevyrado's ride. They were manual window doors but I converted them to power and the speaker will work out fine there. It exposes the bottom of the regulator where the motor screws on. The bonus is that you can remove the three window motor screws, pull out the motor and slap a new one on in minutes without pulling the regulator. I have a post on here somewhere, but my original driver's door had a "door" cut into it in that location for the same purpose and it did make changing the motor a breeze (window must be up all the way, though). The only issue is that there isn't much depth before hitting the regulator, so it can't be much of a speaker and still fit without spacing it out some.
