After reading several post recently dealing with rust I had to post these pics to show what us New Englanders deal with.
I figured you guys in the dry climates would get a kick out of it.
It's a 85 M1009 Military Blazer. It was running, driving,registered,and inspected when I bought for parts. The body is rotted to the point that it's sagging so you have to lift up on the shifter handle as you turn the key to start the truck (tranny linkage binds up when they sag this bad). The 3rd pic shows the big chuck of missing floor between the door and the sear with the door closed.
Just a typical New England rot box.
Who else has a beat up parts truck? Lets see them.

That's a shame. Dakota vehicles usually hold up pretty well because for the most part they just put down sand instead of salt. Fargo is a climate zone in itself, and vehicles rot quickly here. I'm from north central SD though and there you have to worry more about people shooting holes in stuff than having it rust away.  I have an 84 K10 parts truck from MN that is a total loss, sheetmetal wise. They use alot of salt there.
Here's a couple pics of my favorite parts truck, the orange crush (R.I.P.) Nearly every part of this truck has been or will be re-used by somebody. It's a 73 K10 that donated the 12 bolt and dana 44 for my 82 daily driver. I gave the doors to a buddy, traded the bed for a set of wheels and tires, and have a potential buyer for the cab and front clip. The rust on the fender is the worst spot on the whole truck.

WOW! That is sickening. I do have a near perfect tub for it tho,lol. I'll get pics tomorrow, but one thing I have learned since being on this site is the things we throw away down here, are rebuildable to most of you guys in the north. It is safe to say that alot of you have sheet metal skills that are second to none down here.

When we get snow and salt on the windshield we can just look through the floor.

As far as the sheet metal skills I'm just getting the hang of it but it is addicting. I set up my shop with a Lincoln 180 220V mig welder and a brake/shear/roller from Harbor Freight. My first test vehicle was a Nissan 240 that I made a bunch Of patch panels for fenders,rockers, and quarters. I then sprayed those areas in chipguard to hide any sins. The idea was to fix all the rust without replacing any complete panels. I didn't want to get into a complete paintjob because this car has over 200K on it. Maybe on my next project I will tackle the paint.
This is the pass side. It's not perfect but for a first timer I'm happy with it and it saved the car from going to the juckyard.

Man fitz that looks very good. I am going to put floors rockers and cab corners and mounts when the winter is over and if they turn out like that I will be happy. It is just a Sierra so no nice trim stuff like power windows and air or anything like that so I am not going to do a paint job either but my dad and I just split a mig welder off of craigslist and I was trying it out on the bench and I am excited too. 
Man that first blazer was really bad. Did you cut out any rockers or did they just fall off like that. I am only 20 so I only see the stuff that is driving around or what's in the junk yards and even the stuff in the yards isn't nearly that bad. It sucks about the thing sagging like that, at least it isn't an older stick with the bell crank setup, that would mess a clutch up real quick .

They just rotted off. I bought the truck like this for the drivetrain. It has a strong running 6.2 with a turbo 400/208 set up with 68K on it. I just drove this thing about 50' onto the car trailer. There is no way I would drive it on the road. It's scary to think that other people did.

We have trucks up here where you can't put any tools on the floor, because if you hit a bump wrong they will just slide out where the rocker panel goes! And very few of these old square bodies have boxes on them anymore, all have flatbeds.

That 81 i acquire, has more holes in the body then swiss cheese! Its bad, the cab should finally be coming off tomorrow, its been tearing it apart, the floor is totally collapsed making things very dicy with jacking up on the cab.  I wish there were more of these trucks left up here. Anybody have a nice 1 ton cab with a title?
