Blower motor switch
« on: December 04, 2010, 05:21:01 pm »
I broke the blower fan switch in my 82 the other day. I pulled the switch out of my 84 parts truck and took it to NAPA to get a new one. Then I took the 82 apart to replace the switch and it's entirely different. The switch says INDAK on it. The entire assembly with the vac lines and cable bracketry is a completely different setup. Nobody in town has one; it will take a week to get one that may not be right.
2 question:
Anybody have a source for this switch so I could order one and have it next day air shipped to me?

The guy at NAPA said that it was probably a dealer option and for an upgraded aftermarket HVAC control, or else it should have been a Delco part. Anybody ever heard of this? To my knowledge it's stock, but who knows. 82 Silverado K10 with AC.
Thanks

The top one is the switch that's listed for the 82, and is the same as the one out of the 84.
The bottom one is the broken one from the 82 that says INDAK.

Well it just goes to show that you can never count on anything to be original in these trucks unless you bought it new and kept track of everything done to it. After an hour of google searching and cross-referencing I found a pic of the switch that I need. It's for an 80 model.
$19 at autozone

I've never heard of them before this. It very easily could be a direct replacement part brand that's no longer around. I got the call from Autozone today that the part was delivered, so I will pick it up tomorrow and hopefully it will be right.

Also, I read on another post on this site about somebody using the blower fan out of a 94 Chevy pickup in a 73-87, and I needed one anyway so I had the guy at NAPA get the 94 motor and the 82 motor and I compared them. They look identical in every way except the one for the 94 blows like a hurricane compared to the one for the 82. The one I have been using is only a year old but recently it locked up and then worked again after tapping on it with a screwdriver handle. The leftover debris that the mice dragged into the air plenum that I was previously unable to remove had worked loose and gotten stuck in the birdcage fan. The fins were pretty chewed up. The new 82 motor (with no fan) was $24. The 94 motor (with new birdcage fan) was $32. A very worthwhile upgrade I think.

Just picked up the new switch. The packaging brand & part number is Wells, but it has INDAK stamped on it.

I believe the top switch is from a truck with A/C and the lower is just heat.

Negative. Both are for AC equipped models. The difference is in the model year.
