Basketcase buildup with pics
«

I stumbled across this site looking for info how to reassemble a basket case that my brother bought and I thought I'd throw this out there for you guys to see and hopefully get some help to finish this rig.
It's an 83 1/2 ton 4wd loaded with options. The list of new GM parts used on it are endless and has a new ZZ4 crate motor, 700 trans etc. I'll throw some pics on here for you to look at, if you see anything done wrong please post up to let us know. It's rough trying to put this thing together out of boxes that someone else scattered.
Anyway let's try the posting the pics...

Wow, that's nice. I take it the cab is original sheetmetal (rockers, floors, cab support, etc.)?

Just post what you have questions or need info on. I've taken a few of these apart and put them back together, or not..

Looks great so far. Loving that cowl induction hood I spotted.
Quick question on the ZZ4 motor. I thought they all had center bolt valve covers.
Did you use adapters (GM made them) to get the perimeter valve covers on there?
Great project. Let us know if you need pics for reference of anything along the way.

Thanks guys.
It is original sheet metal.
Yes it has the adapters along with roller rockers under them.
Starting on the brake system now. Need to figure out the plumbing/routing/sizes of the lines and where the proportioning valve should be etc.
Any help and or pictures of these would be great since we don't have 1 stick of the original tubing.
Also, is there any magic snake oil that will remove surface rust from new fasteners that actually works?

Now they don’t have to look just like them. Have done it with just almost straight line
Also if you look at the proportioning valve it has the size of the fittings you just have to take it to the parts store and they will find out what you need. Or someone will chime in

Thanks Irish
Where are you getting those pics?
About that proportioning valve. Haven't found it yet but I'm hoping it's in one of the new boxes. lol

Ha...Irish, I keep a hard copy in the shop for reference. I've used it a few time when I forgot how things went and it wasn't clear in the manuals. Thought I was the only one that did that.

Ok, we're bound up on a few things.
On the 700R4 trans. From what I can tell the TC locks up via a vacuum switch? Do either of these look like it?
And does this look like the correct plug for the trans? It only has 3 wires in the 4 wire plug...

Next up are these items. The only place I found that they fit are in the dumpster.
And the vacuum actuator

The long black rod is for the transfer case it mounts it to the bell housing bolt. If you line up the two holes to the two holes on the transfer case it will show you where it goes. And I wana say the vacuum actuator is for the cruise but not so sure on that the others I have no ideal
