Reverse Lights are Staying On

I've been M.I.A. for a while now working on my LQ9 project, hunting season, and the holidays. Today went to go take me a cruise in tha chevy. I noticed that my reverse lights were on even though I hadn't turned my lights on. Went through all the gears and they just stay on! Whether the lights are on or not doesn't matter. Park and any forward gear as well. They only turn off when I turn the truck off. Anybody have a how to on how to get into the column and fix this? For now I just took out my LEDs. As always help and advice appreciated.

I think the switch for the backup lights is on or in the transmission.  It's probably just stuck to the ON position.  might can free it up and keep using it, or buy a new one.

Kenny might be right, not familiar with back up lights and their switches. I don't know if the neutral / safety switch that's mounted on the steering column controls the back up lights or not.  If so, I'd focus on the neutral / safety switch. It may need replacing.  I replaced mine some time ago.  But, before replacing, there is an adjustment on it, if i recall you remove the stem in it and line up the switch with a toothpick or something in it and remount.  It's been a few years.
I replaced it not because of back up lights, but, because it wouldn't crank--like it was in gear and the safety switch wouldn't allow it to crank.

You mentioned "Park" so I assume you have an automatic. The neutral/backup switch for automatics is at the base of the steering column.  Unplug it and see what happens. the position is adjustable and it's cheap to replace.

^ that's right. There are at least two styles of that switch that I have seen, but the one on my 84 column is all plastic and it snaps into the column. One part of the switch slides back and forth inside the other, on a little track of sorts. You can slide that back and forth between the 10 and 2 o'clock positions to adjust when the the contactors hit for the reverse lights. If yours are on all the time though the little tab that goes back and forth as you rotate the gear shifter might be broken off in there.
