Hi I'm from Arkansas and I own a 1973 Chevy Custom Deluxe LWB truck. I got it 5 years ago for my 14th birthday from my grandpa. he bought it in 1979 for a work truck. he used it to pull a trailer with a tractor, scaffolding, and other bricking equipment and just as a driver until a few years before i got it. it sat for that time until it was given to me. it has a 350 v8 and a 3 speed auto. Just a couple years back we had a guy redo the interior (seat, dash, floor pan, carpet, sun visors and painted kick panels).  its really fun to drive (although gas prices are not helping). i hope to fix it up but, I'm joining the Marines in march so i don't know if that will happen or not. I finally got some pics up.

and here's the interior we had done

And i know this is a chevy site but i wanted to post this one. Here's my 73 next to my dad's 1962 ford. its cool because this was also his grand fathers (my great grand fathers) truck.

If your only getting 7 you have some tuning to do. You shouldn't get under 10

Welcome from Ohio! And a complete tune up should help some of that. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc...

well we have recently installed all of those. I have been wanting to ask about carbs and intakes though. it origanally had a 4 barrel carb and intake but my grandpa switched them for a 2 barrel. Would the right 4 barrel help?

Depends on what you expect of the truck. The only benefit of a 4 barrel is greater breathing capacity. While this develops more top end and/or more open throttle mid-speed horsepower, it really has no effect on power below the secondary tip in point, say 3000 - 4000 RPM or 35 to 50% throttle opening.

If this is a work truck where some economy of operation is desirable, then the 2 barrel is fine. If you want to be up front in the stop light gran-prix, then a 4 barrel is needed. If you tow or carry heavy loads, the 4 barrel might improve available mid range power when you have to stick your foot in-it just to get it to move with traffic, but this will come at the cost of more fuel consumption.

I know one of my problems is the transmission. Its geared to pull not drive high way speeds so the engine is always wound tight. When finances allow I wanna get an overdrive tranny. The problem is I drive pretty much on the highway all the time so the motor spends a lot of time in the higher rpms.

Welcome from South Carolina. Maybe in the Marines you'll get stationed on a base with a hobby shop, you can do just about anything to a vehicle in one and it's all free.

yeah one of the guys at work was talking about they have a car garage to keep vehicles on base and you can do what ever you want to in there.
