86 carb issue

Hi all, I've been having what I'm pretty sure is a Carb issue with my 1986 k20 recently. It has the stock 350 and the sock Carb. The problem is that randomly when the tuck is started, especially from cold, it will run for about 5 to 10 seconds and then start idleing really rough. If you give it gas it dies, but if you don't it will die anyway. Upon restarting the truck, it will idle and run fine. I believe its a choke issue but figured I would ask for options anyway. Thanks.

My truck does that occasionally when its really cold. Start it up and the idle is so rough I think its miss firing. I have to rev up to about 3k rpms until I feel it smooth out and I'm good to go. Give that a try.

Thats the thing, if your really careful with the throttle you can get it to come up without dieing, if not, then it will stall.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that you can never kick the choke off in this truck. Once you get it started the choke will stay on, and the truck will stay on high idle until you drive it a little. Then the choke will shut off and the idle will level out, right around 500 RPMs.
