Soooooo. Sadly I found out that my clutch adjustment rod somehow got bent. How does this happen, what do I need to be cautious of, and how do I fix it?

bent rod? Check for binding somewhere, like the pressure plate?
You can straighten it out with a propane torch and getting it orange hot and tap it straight.

Get it red hot and you change the structure of the steel. I have used a "poor man's" anealing process of squirting oil on the part as it cools. Water cooling is too fast and air cooling is too slow oil it turns out is just right.

check to make sure your clutch fork is seated ( clipped in) in the ball pivot, in the bellhousing.

Well, I am way too lazy to heat it up and bend it straight. It hasnt bent any more, but now that it is bent, it is shorter. So there is a lot of play at the top of my clutch pedal. how do I adjust it so there's no slop in the pedal?

Bend it back. If you take the time to adjust it, might as well do it right and bend it back instead.
Do it right the first time, IMO.

If you don't want to bend it back, get a new one. 10 minute swap.
