Ok, here's one that I'm prob. just missing something obvious, but I'm stumped right now. When I put the truck in reverse, the gas gauge will go to empty, sometimes twirling all the way around the wrong direction? And usually staying on "E" for weeks at a time. The other day I looked for a loose connection, but didn't see any (again, it might be staring me in the face). After putting the bezel back on, i fired it up and the gauge went to the correct reading, I moved the shifter a few times and it would drop to empty on every "R", or just flicker if i moved it fast. I backed it out of the garage, and then backed it to the side of the house, as soon as i put it in reverse it went to "E" and has not come back again?

     Sounds to me like an electrical problem.  Shorts can be a pain to trace, but I would start with the reverse circuit in your transmission selector.

I would start by removing the fuse that protects the back up lights.  You either have a bad ground that is backfeeding current or the printed circuit on the back of the speedometer housing.  Mine acted up when I turned on the lights.  No lights, it worked fine, and if I dimmed the dash lights all the way down the gas gauge would work fine.  My $.02
