My 468 roller motor for my 79 shorbed 4x4
« on: January 02, 2011, 09:17:47 pm »
Well heres what i got for my shortbed. I got a 454 block (3999289) 2 bolt main. Its bored .060 trw pistons. Erson 10,000 rpm valvetrain. Not sure on cam size but it lopes like crazy its a hyd. roller. Not sure on brand of rockers but they are very nice 1.7 rollers. Its got oval port heads (3931063) with 2:19 and 1:92 valves. They have had porting work and shaved .010 also. Its got long tube headers. Eldelbrock performer intake. Big holley carb with oversized jets. It has a steel crank and stock rods. Was balanced and blueprinted and dynoed at 698 hp and 758 ft lbs tq thats at 4200 rpm. Ive seen the motor hit 10,000 rpms before but it dropped a valve as soon as it got there. Getting ready to clean it up a bit. It only has 5000 miles on it figured Id show ya what it looks like. Lots of people are decieved by this motor cause its ugly on the outside and they dont know whats on the inside lol. heres a pic will have more soon let me know what you think! Thanks guys!

10K RPM sounds kinda high. I can't see it lasting that long at that RPM.

It doesnt get run like that all the time just once to see if it would do it and it did. It bent the valve when it dropped it and didnt hurt the motor It will hold 7500 all day long tho  ;D

Sold this motor and the truck it was in 2 years ago to a guy who just wanted the motor cause the truck was trashed for 4500 and bought it back for 400!!! Heres the truck its going in. Its going to be a mud truck when finished. Motor will prolly demolish it. In the longbed 3/4 ton we had it in on 44 boggers it broke the leaf springs. Twisted front driveshaft in two. Went through 3 4spds in a week broke cab bolts and twisted the cab. I got a 14 bolt corporate and 10 bolt with 3:73s both are 3/4 ton for when the half ton rearends go out.

Wow 10,000 out of a big block must be one strong bottom end and a lot of money down there. Is the cam a solid lift?I had a 427 big block built by John Lingenfelter that was good to 8500,solid cam, eagle steel crank and rods and I had a lot of money in the bottom end then you could shake a stick at.I would love to know whats in that bottom end.

Im really not sure on the rods but i know for a fact its a steel crank and trw pistons. the heads are off a 427 with extensive work. And like i said it only hit 10000 once and we dropped a valve. Its dropped a push tube one time too bent it all to crap. The motor is so hard to turn over that it smokes the battery cable straining the battery to start it. And its got a 1000 cold cranking amp big battery. Its also got a hayes clutch and pressure plate :P..... But whenever we tear into the bottom end ill be sure to post pics for you guys my dads buddy built the motor and before we bought it he had like 4000 in it and we dropped another 2500 in it. Thanks for not being so negative on this. Any other site i would post this on everyone would be like nope your a liar. That gets old quick.
