From what I understand, you could have a 3500 pickup from 88-91 and it would be newer style, unless said pickup was a
crew cab
, which would then have squarebody styling, and that theory seems to agree with all of the links that were posted.

Yep, extended, but not 'crew' (3+3).
Also, for overall drivability, I would keep the TBI.
