heater/radiator hose configuration
« on: January 31, 2011, 10:15:31 am »
I am replacing the heater core and radiator on my '80 c-10. 305 engine. Auto. the old set up had heater hoses running from the heater core to nipples at near the thermostat housing and another at the water pump. My new radiator had a nipple above the transmission lines for what looks like a heater hose. What do I need to change,  ???  or do I simply plug that hole?
Thanks!

is the nipple on the water pump on the top of it? if so take that nipple out and plug it. use the one on the radiator.

When I got my new radiator I kept the same configuration going to the waterpump and intake, and the radiator came with a rubber cap and clamp for that extra outlet. I don't know that one way is better that the other, but another option is just to cap it off.

The replacement radiators are a "one size fits all". They're meant to work in both applications. The Radiator should have had a rubber block off cap and clamp in the box to cap off the nipple if both hoses go to the block. I don't think there is a difference one way or the other.

Hi All,
Now that the nights are cooling down and there is lots of dew in the mornings, I've been trying to use the defrosters. Next to no heat coming out of the vents. Is this because of they way I have it hooked up? Everything is new as described in the earlier part of the thread and the cable to the heater core is working.

I saw another post when I was searching for an answer where Vile advised that the top (large hose) should go to the radiator instead of the water pump. Would that make the difference? No overheat problems or anything else....just no heat. Thermostat is new too.

Thanks!

i know with my truck i capped the water pumps nipple with a brass fitting and i kept the hoseo n top the intake and to the radiator. this has given me plenty of heat even thought my trucks heater and ac dont work its just from airflow into the truck since my box had been eaten through from animals while parked with the P.O. so eventually i got to replace the box piece
