2 spring question
« on: January 31, 2011, 12:24:01 pm »
I wanted to drop the front of my 1984 GMC sierra 2wd 2 inches, I was going to cut a coil from my factories but one of them is busted in half.  A friend of mine has a set of 3 inch ccp drop springs from a 70 suburban.  He bought the springs and ended up bagging the suburban.

Will these springs work in my 84, the front suspension looks the same as mine.

Will 3" drop springs cause any problems not having spindles?

I dont have the cash in the budget for spindles and if the 3" is too much and can cause driving tire issues I will pass on them.  I am running 15x8 rims with 255-60-15" tires.

i was told that 3" lower springs makes it drive like crap. you can use them but ride quality will suffer. if you want to go lower than 2-  2 1/2 inches you need drop spindles

Ride quality is not a super problem, it's not a daily driver.  i just wanted to make sure it would not affect anything like camber too bad.  Dont want to have to replace my tires every year!

I generally don't recommend 3" springs on these, they will work, but they aren't going to ride well.  Who makes them?

CPP, classic performance parts.  I think I may pass on these, not sure yet.  He told me tonight to take them and out them on, if i didnt like them give them back.  He paid 125 for them and offered them to me for 50 still in the box.

That's a smokin deal! 3" is a bit deep for a spring only drop, and you'll definitely need drop shocks.

To answer your question "again" YES, they will fit. NO! I would not run them even if they were free, unless you can't afford replacement springs. My first choice would be a set of stock springs cut one coil. After that get spindles. Do it right, and do it once.

Thanks for the info folks, the same guy gave me a set of brand new factories, I'm just gonna cut a coil from them till I can afford spindles for it.
