Putting in a newer model steering column?
« on: February 01, 2011, 10:58:54 am »
Hey guys, I was wondering how similar the 99-06 steering columns are to the 73-87s.  I will eventually be doing a custom dash and I wanna use a 99-06 (automatic) column with it (in my opinion it looks nicer).  Does anyone know, are they even remotely similar to the 73-87s in terms of mounting, shift linkage, etc.?  Has anyone attempted this before?

I am not absolutly positive, but what I found is that there are differences between steering coloums.  If you go to buy a reconditioned one they have different part #'s for 79-83 and 84-87. the newer ones all have a year range with different part #'s also, maybe someone else will chime in and get more detailed answere for you.

Mounting isn't the same and most that do the swap get the whole inner structure.
