I love this part: "Instead of the pedestrian having to be so cautious, the city just needs to take some time to inspect the streets that they require people to walk on," Hancock said.

There's just so much wrong with that statement no matter how you look at it....haha

If you don't know enough to watch out what you're doing in downtown Atlanta.....   bet she was wearing some high heels too.

Well, that just confirms that the streets aren't safe anymore. When will the sidewalk-against-human violence ever end? ::)

Unfortunately, the law is on her side.
Cities are responsible for "safe" sidewalks, just as the home owner is responsible to shovel snow within 24 hours after the snow ends....

This is the America the baby boomers gave us...

Although I am not of baby boomer age my dad was a WWII veteran. I don't think I could have looked him in the eyes and told him how I earned the $1.14 million for breaking my own ankle.
I do understand how lawsuits make people and municipalities and such take responsibility for stuff like that. I would just rather earn my money with my hands.

too many lawyers.  An attorney working for the city makes no where near what one can hire on their own, especially a personal injury lawyer who will take no money until judegement is rendered, and will take no money if they don't win.  A city atty may make $150k.  A private PI atty may make millions in a year.

So, odds are, the city /county will lose.  These things are usually settled out of court.  But, the plaintiff atty, knowing he has a great sob story for the jury, will not settle.

"The poor old lady was just walking and no fault of her own, can no longer work, requires six surgeries and will never be right".

My question,as a jury foreman, which i would love to be one day would be, "why did SHE fall and no one else?"  But that isn't P.C.

This is a nanny state.  The dumbest, most ignorant who would never survive centuries ago (ie: Darwins's survival of the fittest) are now thriving because of their stupidness.  The laws of nature have turned upside down.

So true!
